Home / Inclusive Skills

One of I-STEP’s four core areas

Inclusive Skills

Inclusive by design

Access, representation, accessibility, equity and meaningful involvement are built into this area from the start, not added at the end.

Inclusive Skills develops inclusive competences for personal, civic and professional growth, together with practical ways to recognise, communicate and apply them.

What this area covers

A great deal of valuable learning happens outside classrooms and certificates: in community projects, volunteering, training activities and everyday work. Inclusive Skills treats that non-formal and informal learning as real, and builds the means to describe it, evidence it and use it. That includes competence frameworks, open educational resources and validation methods that help a person explain what they can actually do, and help an organisation design learning that leads somewhere.

Who it is for

Educators, trainers, youth workers and career practitioners; the organisations that employ them; and the learners whose experience is currently invisible to the systems that assess them.

What members can develop together

Shared competence frameworks. Validation approaches that survive contact with real employers. Open resources in more than one language. Comparisons of what actually works across different national contexts.
