Home / Inclusive Employability

One of I-STEP’s four core areas

Inclusive Employability

Inclusive by design

Access, representation, accessibility, equity and meaningful involvement are built into this area from the start, not added at the end.

Inclusive Employability develops inclusive connections between learning, opportunity and work.

What this area covers

Capability does not become opportunity on its own. Inclusive Employability works on the connection: mentoring, career guidance, competence validation, and the routes between what a person can do and the work available to them. It pays particular attention to the people for whom the standard route does not function — because of where they live, how they learned, what their documents say, or what an employer assumes about them.

Who it is for

Career practitioners, mentors and job coaches; organisations working with people at a distance from the labour market; and employers willing to look at capability rather than credentials.

What members can develop together

Mentoring models that can be run by small organisations. Validation that employers actually accept. Guidance materials for people navigating an unfamiliar system. Realistic accounts of what a transition takes.
