Access, representation, accessibility, equity and meaningful involvement are built into this area from the start, not added at the end.
Inclusive Participation develops inclusive involvement of people, communities and organisations in shaping what affects them.
What this area covers
Consultation that changes nothing is not participation. Inclusive Participation works on involvement that carries weight: how people are brought into decisions about services, programmes and policy; how a community’s own account of a problem reaches the people designing the response; and what has to be true — in time, money and power — for that to be more than a formality.
Who it is for
Community organisations and civic groups; institutions that want to consult well rather than merely comply; and people who are routinely described in documents they had no part in writing.
What members can develop together
Participation formats that fit real timetables and budgets. Ways to bring in people who do not attend meetings. Honest evaluation of who was actually in the room. Practice that treats participation as a competence to be built, not a box to be ticked.
