About the organisation

Public History is one of the core areas of research, education, and cultural intervention at CESRAM – the Center for Studies on Atlantic-Mediterranean Relations. Through an approach that brings together scientific research, civic participation, and digital innovation, the Center promotes a history that is open to society, engaging communities, institutions, schools, and citizens in the shared construction of memory and interpretation of the past.

For years, CESRAM has developed national and international projects dedicated to the valorization of historical heritage, both tangible and intangible, the collection of community memories, the digitization of sources, the creation of digital archives and exhibitions, the participatory mapping of territories, and the experimentation of new forms of historical narration. The Center's activities are based on the belief that history is not merely a heritage to be preserved, but a fundamental tool for understanding the present, strengthening a sense of belonging, and promoting active citizenship, social inclusion, and intercultural dialogue.

Through workshops, educational programs, festivals, publications, digital platforms, and European projects, CESRAM works to make historical knowledge accessible to diverse audiences, encouraging the direct involvement of communities in research and the production of cultural content. From this perspective, Public History becomes a meeting place between academia and society, between memory and innovation, between local identities and the European dimension.

Among the Center's most significant initiatives is the International Festival of Public History, one of Italy's leading events dedicated to historical dissemination and participation, which annually brings together scholars, teachers, cultural professionals, associations, and citizens to reflect on the public role of history in contemporary societies.
