Skills is about the competences that help people grow, and about making those competences visible so they count.

What we do here

A lot of valuable learning happens outside classrooms and certificates: in community projects, volunteering, training activities and everyday work. The Skills group treats that non-formal and informal learning as real, and gives people ways to describe and prove what they can actually do.

We build competence frameworks, open educational resources and validation methods. These help a learner explain their skills to an employer, and they help an organisation design learning around clear, useful outcomes.

Because skills connect to everything else in the network, this group works closely with Training, which builds the learning, and with Employability, which links it to work.
