About the organisation

The Department for E-Governance and Administration at the University for Continuing Education Krems conducts research and provides continuing education at the intersection of digital transformation, governance and society. Our mission is to bridge teaching, research and practice for an open-minded digital society.

Our work addresses how digital and social change affects organisations, public administration and society. Key areas include e-government and e-governance, digital participation and co-creation, artificial intelligence and data-driven systems, digital transformation, data ecosystems, technology policy, information security, digital resilience and responsible technology governance.

A central focus of the Department is translating research into practical skills and organisational capabilities. Through university continuing education, applied research and cooperation with public authorities, businesses, civil society and international partners, we support professionals and organisations in developing the knowledge and competencies required to navigate digital transformation responsibly and effectively.

The Department participates in national and European research and innovation initiatives and contributes expertise in areas such as AI skills, digital government, evidence-based decision-making, smart governance, digital sustainability and participatory approaches. We place particular emphasis on connecting technological innovation with organisational, legal, ethical and societal perspectives.

Through I-STEP, we aim to exchange knowledge and good practices, develop international partnerships and contribute our expertise in digital skills, inclusive digital participation and responsible digital transformation to collaborative initiatives across sectors and countries.
